Taxis leaving the Airport subject to 20 Dirham surcharge otherwise they are  very cheap and plentiful and, if there are 2 or more persons taxis are cheaper that the overhead metro railway.

Local tips

Water expensive – tap water de-salinated from sea water. Use bottled water. As well as some excellent fine food restaurants, there are plenty of KFC, Burger King, McDonalds and Subways in the shopping malls. Supermarkets such as Waitrose plentiful but discreetly  hidden from view as in Monaco.

Rules  and Dress Code

Shorts, bare arms only on beach, swimming pools hotels etc. Public showing of affection e.g. kissing not tolerated. Dubai has strict rules on relationships and drugs. No alcohol and zero tolerance on drink driving, although some hotels do have bars. Automatic  4 year jail sentence for drugs possession including codeine which is in many cold cures! Best not to take medicines and buy what you need at their excellent pharmacies. Care when walking as traffic which drives on the “wrong” side of the road has the right and does do U turns at traffic light junctions
