We our glad to announce Pentathlon GB South are hosting its next Regional Development Training Camp at Lord Wandsworth College, Long Sutton, Hampshire on Tuesday 28th – Thursday 30th May.

The camp will run from 0930-1500 each day and will consist of Running, Swimming, Fencing and Shooting (static and combined) and is aimed at athletes 9+. The aim of the camp is to develop each individual as an all round Pentathlete. Each day will consist of 1 hour of running, 1 hour of fencing, 1 hour of shooting and 1 hour of swimming. The three days will be very tiring, however we believe in quality not quantity. This training schedule will ensure the camp is very rewarding for all the athletes attending. 

I will be lead the camp and my aim is to pass on the knowledge I gained while I was a member of the Great Britain Modern Pentathlon Team. Our Regional Fencing Coach Ian Briggs, will once again be joining us on this camp to offer his expertise in the fencing salle.

This event is only open to PGB members who have acheived a satisfactory performance standard in Biathle.  Please contact Howard Jones for clarification on this event since it will not be supported by team amanagement on the ground in Italy.

Additional tickets for supporters for  the opening gala dinner are available at a cost of £18 each.

10% discount at the Grand Continental Hotel in Tirrenia ia available to competitors. This hotel boasts two swimming pool including a 50 metre pool.

The training is open to all athletes who wish to come along and have a go at a biathle or biathlon, and more experienced athletes to do some specific biathle training. Novices from schools and clubs are encouraged to come along as there will be talks on training and other events organised by Pentathlon GB.

The cost is £6 per session, or £15 for all 3 monthly sessions.

Through a partnership with Wycliffe College we are able to offer a number of unique training opportunities for your children in 4 of the Pentathlon disciplines; running, fencing, swimming and shooting.

By way of a monthly camp, pupils will not only receive guidance, training and expertise in Pentathlon sports, they will also have the chance to meet Olympians, World Champions, role models and experienced Pentathletes. Olympic athletes will be in regular attendance to offer tips on how to succeed as a Pentathlete, both on and off the field. The regular development is open to schools across Gloucestershire and individuals from across the country.

Here is an indication of the calibre of staffing/coaches we will have available…

Swimming:            Graham Brookhouse           (Bronze, Seoul Olympics 1988)                         May & June Camps

Running:                Emily Freeman                     (Beijing Olympics 2008)                                      June Camp

All of these World Class athletes will be supported by highly qualified support coaches.

The Costs:

There will be an introductory offer of just £15.00 for the camp in May, which will include a 1-year membership to Pentathlon GB, the National Governing Body for the sport. If you are already a PGB member, then the day will be just £5.00!

The June development day will be £25, which will be the normal cost of the day camp, and the camps will resume on a monthly basis after the summer holidays from September 2013 through to June 2014

This competition is open to all athletes aged 10 to 18 as at 31st December 2013 (Youth D, Youth C, Youth B, Youth A). The competition will be conducted in accordance with the British Modern Tetrathlon and Pentathlon Rules 2013 using pellet and knock-down targets for all age groups. The run/shoot will be combined for all age groups. The timetable will be published shortly after the closing date once final numbers are known.

The Premier Inn (Solihull Central) over the road from the venue are offering rooms at £45.  If you wish to avail yourselves of this offer, please contact the Hotel directly on solihulltowncentre.pi@whitbread.com or 0121 241 8050.  Please mention ‘Pentathlon GB Competitors’ when making the booking to secure this rate.

It was originally envisaged that this competition would be used to select the GB Team for the European Continental Championships (Qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games in 2014) but because of the wide age group that this would have to encapsulate we are organising a separate competition on 31st August 2013.

This competition will be used to identify athletes for the 2014 series of residential World Class Talent Identification Camps.

Athletes will shoot a 10 shot (static shoot) match in addition to their run and swim.

Eligible athletes are Youth B Girls and Boys, and 2nd year Youth C Girls and Boys (ages as at 31st December 2013).

Subject to meeting the minimum consideration standards (published in the World Class Entry and Exit Policy available on the PGB Website):

• The top six, Youth B age groups (boys and girls) may be invited (subject to agreement by the National Development Coach and World Class Talent Programme Coach) to attend the 2014 series of residential World Class Talent Identification Camps.
