Child Protection
PentathlonGB has a duty to safeguard all young people involved with PentathlonGB from harm. All young people have a right to protection, and the needs of disabled young people and others who may be particularly vulnerable must be taken into account. The PentathlonGB will use its best endeavours to ensure the safety and protection of all children involved in the sport throughout the adherence to the child protection guidelines adopted by the Association.
This is PentathlonGB's official Child Protection policy statement. Essentially, its policy is about:
- ensuring that any young person or vulnerable adult is safe
- identifying risks to young people
- taking measures to prevent any form of abuse
- ensuring incidents and poor practice are dealt with appropriately
PentathlonGB has produced a Child Protection policy support document Pure Sport (Word Version). This tells you more about what child abuse is and forms it can take, measures to be taken to help prevent children coming to harm and adults being wrongly accused of inappropriate behaviour. It describes the processes for the screening all staff and volunteers working with children and vunerable adults; expected codes and standards of behaviour, examples of good practice and precautions for athletes, coaches, parents/carers, officials, event organiser and even spectators. The document aims to help you to prevent problems arising, recgonize them when they do arise, it tells you who to contact for advice, register incidents or concerns. For reference purposes, the document links the user to other related policies such as those pertaining to the recruitment of ex-offenders (as staff or volunteers), storage of personnel records, transport and overnight accommodation, photography, selection of representative teams, relevant charters, codes of behaviour and behavioural guidelines; procedures for screening staff and volunteers, reporting and investigasting an incident, support for victims of child abuse and whistle blowing in relation to anyone making a formal complaint.

PentathlonGB has copies of the DCMS Safe in Sport: Child Protection for Parents leaflet and its own generic Child Protection poster available for member organisations to download or request in hard copy (write to the CP Officer below). These are useful for adding local contact details and displaying at club training and competition venues.
