Firearms legislation
The Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 has made a number of changes that affect firearms legislation. There are three main areas which are amended:
- Possession of firearms in a public place
- Air weapons age limits
- Prohibition of certain air weapons

Risk Assessment
The safe operation of a competition requires compliance with the home country’s Health and Safety Laws. The principal legislation in Great Britain is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all its subsequent Regulations, together with the common law duty of care.
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 states that every employer shall make a suitable and sufficient risk assessment of:
a) The risks to health and safety of his employees to which they are exposed whilst they are at work:
and
b) The risks to health and safety of persons not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him or his undertaking
Template Risk Assessments to assist competition organisers are available for each of the five disciplines: shooting, fencing, swimming, riding and running.
Guidelines for use of Photographic and Filming Equipment
There is evidence that some people have used sporting events as an opportunity to take inappropriate photographs or film footage of young and disabled sports people. The NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit has therefore issued guidelines to sport to help prevent this form of abuse. The nature of Modern Pentathlon and the environment in which events take place make it difficult and sometimes impractical to follow the recommendations in every situation. However, the MPAGB is encouraging Clubs and event organisers to take reasonable steps to protect young people and where it is appropriate apply the guidelines which can be found here in pdf format.
