Youth A Success at European Championships Today
Posted on Sunday, 22nd Jul 2012 by Stuart Mason
The final day of competition finished in great style for the GBR Team. Highlight being Joseph Choong becoming the Individual European Youth A (18 and under) Champion. Joe who is on the WCDP and from the Whitgift School produced a solid perfromance all day to back up his fence score from yesterday. He won the swim in 1.59 (lc) and ran a CE that was exceptional, starting from 2nd place he was in a pack of about 9 athletes that all had podium potential. Joe on the third shoot left approx 120m behind the leader from BLR and had only one thing on his mind, to pass the BLR athlete. He ran 2.45 for the final km and it was show time for Joe Choong - and the second Joe in two years to win the European title (Joe Evans last year)
The day started however with the girls swim and CE and Eilidh Prise went into the CE in 9th place but soon caught the leaders and jossled around the 4th 5th and 6th slot for quite some time. In the final km she left the range in site of the leaders and those that know Eilidh knew the others had a fight on their hands - with 400m to go she kicked for home and took the bronze medal position. There was not a happier young lady in Sofia as she crossed the finish line.
The remaining boys in the team (Tom Lees and John Allen) knew thay had a chance of making a huge leap up the result sheet it their combined went well, so starting in 9th place as a team and with Joe winning, the other 2 didnt let themselves down - Tom knocked out a 2.46 final km and John was almost perfect on the range but having to dig deeper that he ever has before in the run to ensure they had a chance. The results out and they had taken a bronze team medal. Mat Dewey learnt a huge amount from the relay and put the experience to good effect today, solid performance from Mat.
The girls Jemma Westgate and Francesca Summers both performed better in the CE today and as a team with Eilidh finished in 4th place. The final girl Jo Muir had an excellent day, and rocketed up to 15th in the final results. Well done to all the team.
Running tweets were provided throughout the week and hope they were getting through
The full results are on the Bulgarian website.

| Thursday, 13th Jun 2013 | 2013-06-13 | Youth B Europeans Minsk Belarus Report | After being left in hotel all day and only getting the coach to the venue at 4pm this afternoon and the serious delays due to a power cut and then sunshine too bright sunlight for the targets to function, the combined event managed to get under way. Aylish Paisley, Kerenza Bryson and Georgina Summers went in the first detail. All three girls had a good combined event and moved themselves up into the top 15 hence ahead of some in the final detail. This confirmed their performances that have been seen in training. Naomi Craig went off 2nd in the final detail and had 2 of the best shoots of her life coming into the 3rd shoot in 1st place but unfortunately she timed out on 50 seconds on the last shoot and dropped herself down to 10th place. 43 girls and 10 teams started the day. The boys were all in the 2nd detail due to their strong swims with Henry starting in 2nd place and Myles in 4th, William in 21st and Harrison 26th. The boys had 56 starting with 12 teams. Henry had not his best day on the range and came in to the final shoot in 3rd place but unfortunately stood on the range and dropped to 12th place at the end of the final run. Myles dropped to 29th and William to 24th but the performance of the boys was Harrison Yarnold who moved himself into 8th place with a very strong shoot and run. Overall results: Harrison Yarnold 8th Naomi Craig 10th |
