British Schools' Modern Biathlon & World Schools Biathlon
Modern Pentathlon is a multi-discipline sport that traditionally consists of the five disciplines of fencing, swimming, riding and a combined run and shoot. However, we don’t just organise Pentathlon competitions and there are opportunities for every age, level of technical and fitness ability to get involved in an enjoyable and safe environment. The competition types that we run are:
- Modern Biathlon swim - run
- Biathle continuous run-swim-run
- Modern Triathlon swim - combined run/shoot
- Modern Tetrathlon swim - fence - combined run/shoot
- Modern Pentathlon swim - fence - ride - combined run/shoot
The British Schools’ Modern Biathlon is a great example of a competition that we run to encourage as many children as possible to get involved in an exciting multi-discipline sporting environment. The Modern Biathlon consists of a separate swim and run for all age groups with the distances depending on the competitor’s age.
Points are awarded for the competitor’s result in each discipline, with the final positions being decided by the total number of points achieved overall after both disciplines. There is also a team element to the competition, as the three top scoring individuals in each age group from a school will count as a team. A school can have more than one team in an age group if they have enough entries, this adds to the sense of competition on the day!

British Schools' Modern Biathlon Series 2013-14
Because of the ever-increasing popularity of this event, we have responded to those who took part in our survey at the School’s Championships in 2012 and have aligned our age groups and distances with our traditional competitions for the 2013-2014 season giving athletes the opportunity to qualify for both the British Modern Biathlon Championships and the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships by entering just one preliminary competition.
In previous years we have invited athletes to submit validated run and swim times for consideration to one of three semi-final championships. Adverse weather conditions last year resulted in the cancellation of two of the semi-finals so for this season we are dispensing with the semi-final championships and replacing them with a weekend Championships to be held at a major sporting venue in London on the weekend of 5th & 6th April 2014. Girls will compete on Saturday and Boys on Sunday.
The British Schools’ Modern Biathlon (swim-run) comprises the following distances for athletes of school age and their teachers:
| Ages (as at 31st December 2013) | Year Born | Swim Distance (m) | Run Distance (m) |
|---|---|---|---|
| U10 | 2004 | 50 | 800 |
| U11 | 2003 | 50 | 800 |
| U12 | 2002 | 50 | 800 |
| U13 | 2001 | 100 | 1600 |
| U14 | 2000 | 100 | 1600 |
| U15 | 1999 | 200 | 1600 |
| U16 | 1998 | 200 | 1600 |
| U17 | 1997 | 200 | 1600 |
| U19 | 1995/96 | 200 | 1600 |
| Teachers | N/A | 50 | 800 |
The Pentathlon GB Development Team will continue to co-ordinate and help organise development days and mini-biathlons at grass roots level at the shorter distances to enable athletes to submit times to the World Schools’ Biathlon Rankings list as in previous years.
The Getting Involved section sets out the procedures for the 2013-14 season. If, after reading it thoroughly, you have any questions, please check the FAQ section of the website.
Getting Involved
- Pentathlon GB Regions and other interested parties (Schools, Clubs) will organise a number of Pentathlon GB 'approved competitions' for athletes attending schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to obtain run and swim times which will automatically be added to the rankings list for the British Modern Biathlon Championships and for the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships. These events may take the form of a competition or a time trial and will be organised between 1st September and 24th November 2013. Competitions held after the 20th October will only be eligible to submit run and swim times for consideration to the rankings list for the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships.
- Pentathlon Scotland will be organising their own Championships for athletes in Scotland and the results will be included on the rankings list for the British Modern Biathlon Championships (where athletes will qualify by right as below) and to the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships where athletes will qualify on merit.
- Athletes attending the Regional Biathlon Championships organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions and the Scottish Championships will be eligible to qualify for the British Modern Biathlon Championships to be held in Solihull on the 30th November and 1st December 2013, giving another opportunity to gain competition experience and improve times for the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships in 2014. The top 6 individuals and top 3 teams from each Regional Championships qualify by right. Additional athletes will be invited from the rankings list.
- The following number of athletes attending the Regional Biathlon Championships organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions will qualify by right to the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships being held on the 5th and 6th April 2014 at a major sporting venue in London; The top 3 individuals in the U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 classes and the top individual in the U15, U16, U17 and U19 classes.
- Athletes attending Pentathlon GB approved competitions not organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions will have their times added to the British Modern Biathlon Championships and the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships rankings lists and will be eligible to compete at both competitions on merit. There will be no automatic qualifying places from these competitions.
-
Schools or Clubs wishing to register their interest in organising a Pentathlon GB approved competition
or
‘time trial’ should contact Sue Hyde – sue.hyde@pentathlongb.org - 07590 444374.
- All swim times must be achieved in either 25m or 50m pools. Times achieved in 25m pools will be converted by Pentathlon GB to 50m times.
- Run times can be achieved on track or grass, however there should be every effort to ensure that the proposed run route is level and that the correct distance is measured. There will be no allowances made for runs completed on grass or weather conditions due to the huge variances of both.
Online entry process for entry to the Regional Qualifying Competitions and Pentathlon GB approved competitions
- Confirmed dates for the Regional Biathlon Championships or Pentathlon GB approved competitions that you may enter in order to gain run and swim times can be found on the schools' calendar. Competitions will be added as they are organised so please keep checking.
-
Once you have looked at the calendar and selected which competition you would like to attend, the entry
process will be simple and consistent for all entrants regardless of whether they attend an event
organised
by the Pentathlon GB Regions or gain their times at a Pentathlon GB approved competition.
- Register and create a login (or just login if they already have a login)
- Select the Regional Biathlon Championships or approved competition for which the entries are to be considered
- Select the school to be represented
-
Enter the following data:
- First Name
- Surname
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- email address (of competitor)
- Class
- Submitted swim time (optional, for the purposes of setting heats)
- Submitted run time (optional, for the purposes of setting heats)
- Pentathlon GB affiliated club (if appropriate)
-
On submission, the following will happen:
- Run and swim times will be validated based on a range of 'reasonable' values held for each class.
- A check for the existence of the competitor in our database will be made, based on first name, surname, DoB, gender. Please do your utmost to spell names correctly and provide correct dates of birth. For those identified, the membership number will be retrieved and the form populated. For those not identified a new membership will be created for that individual.
- Membership - if the competition being entered is a Pentathlon GB Regional Qualifier or a County level approved competition a new Junior membership will be required which attracts a membership fee of £10. For entry to any other competition a new First Steps membership will be created which is free of charge.
Qualification for the British Modern Biathlon Championships (November 30th & 1st December 2013)
- From each of the Regional Biathlon Championships, the top 6 individual athletes and the top 3 affiliated club teams qualify by right to compete at the British Modern Biathlon Championships being held at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, Blossomfield Road, Solihull on 30th November and 1st December 2013. Each class will compete on one day only which will be decided following the closing date.
- Results of all the Regional Biathlon Competitions and Pentathlon GB approved competitions will be combined to produce a British Ranking List from which other highly ranked individuals who have not qualified under the above criteria may be invited to participate. Athletes who have qualified to compete in the British Modern Biathlon Championships will be listed online – we will not be sending out email confirmation.
- The top three scoring individuals from an affiliated Club in a class competing at the British Modern Biathlon Championships will create a team. This means that if the Club has more than three qualifying individuals in a class, the team members may change from those at the qualifying competition. A Club may have more than one team in a class. Schools wishing athletes to represent them at this competition should ensure that the School is registered as an affiliated club. Click here to download the Club membership form.
- Athletes who qualify for the British Modern Biathlon Championships will have to formally enter the competition online and pay the appropriate entry fee per athlete. The rankings list will be published on the Competition Rankings page on 24th October 2013 following the conclusion of all of the qualifying competitions, at which time those invited from the rankings list may enter. The closing date for submission of entries to the Championships is 8th November 2013.
- If a qualified individual is not able to enter the British Modern Biathlon Championships for whatever reason, the next ranked individual may be invited to participate in their place.
- When compiling the rankings list, adjustments will be made to take account of swim times achieved in 25m and 50m swimming pools as below:
| SWIMMING - CONVERSION TABLE | ||
|---|---|---|
| POOL LENGTH | 100m SWIM | 50m SWIM |
| 50m to 25m | - 1.1 second | - 0.5 second |

This will be posted on the website on 6th December 2013. If an athlete has competed in more than one competition, the best score will be included on the rankings list. If an athlete scores the same points in two or more competitions the score with the best swim time will be used for ranking purposes.
-

- The three top scoring individuals from a school in a class at the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships will create a team. A school may have more than one team in a class.
- If a qualified individual or team is not able to enter the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships for whatever reason, the next ranked individual may be invited to participate in their place.
- When compiling the rankings list, adjustments will be made to take account of swim times achieved in 25m and 50m swimming pools as per the table above.
A copy of the revised Schools' Modern Biathlon Rules 2013 will be available from the resources section of the website with effect from 1st September 2013.
The Rules contain important information including competition dates, points tables and qualification criteria. You are strongly recommended to download and read these Rules before entering the competition.
Cancellation
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, Pentathlon GB had to cancel two semi-final competitions in 2012-13. As this decision was made for reasons beyond our control and for the safety of all concerned, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, there was no refund of entry fees. T-shirts were posted to those who had pre-ordered them.
Further consideration was given to insuring the Championships against cancellation. Unfortunately, quotations were prohibitively expensive so the same Terms and Conditions will apply for the 2013-14 series. If Schools are concerned about this, we suggest that they consider insuring themselves against loss in the event of cancellation.
Rearranging competitions in such circumstances is impossible as venues and officials are simply not available on alternative dates.
If you have any questions, please check the FAQ section of this page. If this does not resolve your query please do not hesitate to contact our headquarters in Bath on 01225 386808.

Schools' Biathlon Rules
The rules for the Schools' Biathlon 2012-13 season of events will be available from the Resources page from the beginning of June.
In summary, the principles of the competition is as follows:
- each school year group competes separately apart from Years 10 and 11 which, from next season, will compete as a single age group and Years 12 and 13 who also compete together.
- the run and swim are completed separately, ie it is not a continuous run/swim
- distances vary depending on year group, but Years 5,6 and 7 and Teachers run 500m and swim 50m, remaining year groups run 1000m and swim 100m.
- scoring is based on run and swim times being converted to points. Each year group has to acheive a target time to gain 1000 points. Times faster or slower than the target time result in an increase or decrease in points. See the rule book on the Resources page for the details.
The rules are detailed and should be read and understood before competing.

Entries for the 2014 British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships will open later in 2013.
Schools' Biathlon Championships 2013 - Ranking Lists
Ranking lists for the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships have now been produced and can be viewed by choosing from the options below.
When compiling the rankings list, in accordance with the rules, adjustments have been made to swim times achieved at a pool where the length is different from the one in which the final will be held. This applies to the Macclesfield semi-final where 25m times have been adjusted for a 50m pool. The adjustments are as per the table below.
| SWIMMING - CONVERSION TABLE | ||
|---|---|---|
| POOL LENGTH | 100m SWIM | 50m SWIM |
| 50m to 25m | - 1.1 second | - 0.5 second |
| 25m to 50m | + 1.1 second | + 0.5 second |
In each Class of the Semi-Final Championships the first 6 placed individuals and top team qualified by right.
The remaining team places were allocated from the Team Rankings list to make up the total number of teams in each Class to:
- Seven teams in Year 5, Year 6, Year 7 & Year 8.
- Five teams in Year 9.
- Four teams in Years 10/11 & Years 12/13.
The remaining places for British Championships were allocated from the individual ranking list to make up the total number of athletes in each Class to:
- 72 athletes in Year 5, Year 6, Year 7 & Year 8
- 48 athletes in Year 9
- 40 athletes in Years 10/11 & Years 12/13

Athletes who have a 'Q' next to their name on the ranking list have qualified for the British Championships as individuals. ‘QT’ denotes that the athlete has qualified as a member of a team.
Qualified athletes must be entered into the competition online – a ‘Q’ or a ‘QT’ against their name does not mean that they have been entered, just that they have qualified for a place at the British Championships.
Athletes who fell just outside the individual ranking places and have the same total points as the last individual athlete to qualify in their class are also granted qualification status.
The closing date for online entries is 5th March 2013. Those who fall just outside the ranking places should continue to monitor their qualification status until 8th March as we will create additional qualifiers if we are notified of withdrawals by qualified athletes or if places aren’t taken up.
Please Note: : Run and swim times cannot be updated under any circumstances.
Entries can only be made online and will open on 11th February 2013. Entries must be made by the person who submitted the original run and swim times. You will need to login to the website here using the user name and password created when submitting the run and swim times for the ranking lists. If you have forgotten your password, click on the 'Forgotten Password' link on the login page.
The entry fee for each athlete is £15. Teachers enter for free. Commemorative Championships T-shirts (in azure blue) can also be ordered at £10 each.
In all competitions, the three top scoring individuals from a School in a class are automatically created as a team by the results system. Therefore there is no need for the school to nominate team members. This means that if the School has more than three qualifying individuals in a class, the team members may change from the previous qualifying round. There is no entry fee for teams.
If you enter online but choose to pay by cheque later, please make cheques payable to 'Pentathlon GB' and ensure they arrive before the closing date, 5th March. A single cheque must be submitted for the full amount of your entries and any t-shirts ordered.
After you have entered you will be able to check that your entries have been received on the 'Competition Entries' tab of the Schools section of the website.
The closing date is 5th March and will be strictly adhered to - the web page will close after that date and it will not be possible to make late entries.

Semi Final 1 - Crystal Palace
Semi-Final 1 was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Therefore the run and swim times submitted for inclusion on the rankings list have been used to compile individual and team competition results.
The top 6 individuals and top team in each class (except teachers) automatically qualify for the British Championships, others will be invited from the rankings list in accordance with the Rules.
It was possible to submit updated times through the online entry system until 15th November and many chose to do so. There will not be any further up-dating of times for any individual under any circumstances so please don’t ask as there was ample opportunity prior to the closing date. This is to maintain overall fairness to all competitors. There has been no global ‘uplifting’ of times to account for possible improvements since the rankings list closed as the analysis of submitted times vs actual results last year showed that there was a variation of +/- 3% ie competition neutral as some improved their times at the competition and others achieved competition times that were slower than their submitted times.
Typically there is a 10% ‘no-show’ rate. However all competitors entered into the competition will be put onto the rankings list for the British Championships alongside those of those who compete in the other semi-finals.

| I have never done a biathlon before. Am I going to be the only beginner? | Definitely not! This competition is open to ALL school children attending schools in England, Northern Ireland and Wales (Scotland will organise their own championships), and therefore lots of the children who enter will never have done a biathlon before. Pentathlon GB firmly believes the Schools' Modern Biathlon offers young people of all abilities a fantastic opportunity to participate in multi-sport in an enjoyable, safe and competitive environment. If you aren't able to compete at the distances required for the Schools' Championships, you can still compete at shorter distances at a local level and submit times to the World Schools' Biathlon Rankings List. Ask us for more details - admin@pentathlongb.org. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What are the age groups and distances? |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There is not a Pentathlon GB approved competition or time trial in my area, can you help my school to organise one? | Of course! Providing the facilities provided by your proposed venue are approved, the Pentathlon GB Development team will help your school organise a 'time trial' . Please get in touch with the relevant Pentathlon Development Officer in your area and they will be able to advise you. For South/South West/South East/East - contact Peter Evans at peter.evans@pentathlongb.org. All other areas of the UK (except Scotland), please contact Rachael Hares at rachael.hares@pentathlongb.org. Scottish athletes should visit www.pentathlon-scotland.org for local information. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Is the run/swim continuous? | No, we allow a break of about an hour between distances. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do the run and swim times have to be done on the same day? | Yes. The run and swim times must be achieved via one of the Pentathlon GB Regional competitions or Pentathlon GB approved competitions/Time Trials or by qualifying for and competing in the British Modern Biathlon Championships. If an athlete has competed in more than one competition, the best combined score will be included on the rankings list. If an athlete scores the same points over two or more competitions, the score with the best swim time will be used. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Are athletes able to record their swim times in any size pool? | No. All swim times MUST be achieved in either 25m or 50m pools. These will be converted by Pentathlon GB to that of a 50m pool (the length of the pool at the venue for the Championships). Times recorded in different length pools will not be accepted. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do all run and swim times have to be from a Regional qualifying competition or approved Pentathlon GB competition or time trial? | Yes. Times obtained from any competitions which are not organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions or have not been approved by Pentathlon GB will not be accepted. This is different from the 2012-2013 series where times could be submitted from training sessions - this year these will not be accepted. You can find out where there is a time trial or competiton near you by visiting the calendar page of the website. If you can't find one near you, get in touch with the regional representative in your area and they will be able to advise you. For South/South West/South East/East - contact Peter Evans at peter.evans@pentathlongb.org. All other areas of the UK (except Scotland), please contact Rachael Hares at rachael.hares@pentathlongb.org. Scottish athletes should visit www.pentathlon-scotland.org for local information. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is the difference between a Regional qualifying competition and a Pentathlon GB approved competition or time trial? | Competitions organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions have automatic qualifying places for both the British Modern Biathlon Championships (30th November & 1st December 2013) and the British Schools' Biathlon Championships (5th & 6th April 2014). Competitors entering Pentathlon GB approved competitions organised by third parties qualify by merit via their standing on the rankings list (there are no automatic qualifying places). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My school are not participating. What can I do? | Anybody (you, your parents, Club, School etc.) can enter you online into one of the Regional Qualifying competitions or Pentathlon GB approved competitions/Time Trials so that you can obtain run and swim times which will then automatically be submitted for the rankings lists for both the British Modern Biathlon Championships and the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships. Go to the calendar page of the website to find a competition near you - these will be added as they are organised so keep checking. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will there be semi-finals? | No. This year we are dispensing with the semi-finals and replacing them with a weekend championships to be held at a major sporting venue in London on the weekend of 5th and 6th April 2014. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can my parents enter me or do I have to enter through the school? | Your parents can make the online entry if your school is not participating - your school do not need to have any input if they do not wish to. Parents should register in the same way as teachers do, and once registered, they choose your school from the drop down list and add your personal details. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will you adjust the run times if done on grass? | No. Run times can be achieved on track or grass, however there should be every effort to ensure that the proposed run route is level and that the correct distance is measured. There will be no allowances made for runs completed on grass or weather conditions due to the huge variances of both. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can athletes compete up one year? Can a 7 year old pupil enter if she has taken part in local Pentathlon GB events in the past? | In this example, no. The Schools' Biathlon is only open to athletes born in 1995 to 2004 plus teachers. In all other circumstances, athletes may compete up one year but the youngest must be born in 2004. An athlete born in 2004 (U10) may compete in the U11 class (maybe to make up a team of 3) but must do for all competitions in this series. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Are the classes mixed? | No. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, the classes are by Age and Gender, so U10 Girls, U10 Boys, etc, are separate. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can I enter by fax, 'phone, post or email? | No. All entries will be online at www.pentathlongb.org. You need to login to your account using the username and password that you set up previously, or register as a guest. If you have not registered before and are doing so on behalf of an athlete (or group of athletes), please use YOUR name and email address to create an online account. This is so that anyone wishing to enter more than one athlete only has to register once. When you have registered, you will be sent an activation link to the email address you provided. Once you have clicked on this link, you will be taken to a login screen where you type in your username and password (case sensitive). This will take you to your own personal area where you can enter the athlete(s) by following the steps. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When I register online do I use my name, or the name of the athlete I am entering? | If the athlete is an existing member of Pentathlon GB and has already registered on the website, simply login to this account and make the entry that way. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My daughter is already a member of Pentathlon GB - do I still have to register? | If your daughter joined through the website or you have already registered her account online, you can simply login and you will be able to enter her that way. If she did not join online or you have not yet registered that account, you will need to do this using her membership number and unique ID which you will either find in your welcome email (when you joined), or you can get by calling the office on 01225 386808. When you have registered, you will be sent an activation link to the email address you provided. Once you have clicked on this link, you will be taken to a login screen where you type in your username and password (case sensitive). This will take you to the member's personal area, and you will be able to enter here. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My son took part last year but I don't remember his membership number - do I have to re-register? | No. You simply log in using the username and password you created when you registered. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Can I enter more than one athlete at a time? | Yes. There is no limit to the number of athletes you can enter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How many can we enter per class? | Schools can enter as many athletes in each class as they wish to. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do I have to submit the run and swim times myself to the rankings lists for the British Modern Biathlon Championships and the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships? | No. All run and swim times achieved at Pentathlon GB Regional or Pentathlon GB approved competitions held prior to the 20th October 2013 will automatically be submitted to the British Modern Biathlon and British Schools' Modern Biathlon rankings list for you. Times achieved at Pentathlon GB approved competitions or time trials held after the 20th October will automatically be added to the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships only. If an athlete has competed in more than one competition (including the British Modern Biathlon Championships), the best combined score will be included on the rankings list. If an athlete scores the same points over two or more competitions, the score with the best swim time will be used. Times obtained from any other Pentathlon GB competitions, or competitions which have not been approved by Pentathlon GB will not be accepted. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We don't have enough competitors in a class to make up a team of 3, does this matter? | Not at all. Any number of athletes can represent their school. If there are 3 or more individuals in a class then the top 3 scoring individuals make up a team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How much is it to enter? | Entry fees for the Regional Qualifying Championships and Pentathlon GB approved competitions are at the discretion of the organisers and are within the information posted under each competiton on the website. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do the children have to be members of PGB? | Competitors who aren't fully paid up members of Pentathlon GB entering the Regional Qualifying competitions and Pentathlon GB approved competitions at County level (ie the Surrey Schools Biathlon Championships) will become members at the point of entry. The membership fee is £10 and will be in addition to any entry fee. Competitiors who are already full members of Pentathlon GB will just pay the entry fee. All those who qualify and enter the British Modern Biathlon Championships and/or the British Modern Schools' Biathlon Championships will need to be fully paid up members of Pentathlon GB at the date of competiton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Does the school have to pay any Club affiliation fees? | The top three scoring individuals from an affiliated Club in a Class competing at the British Modern Biathlon Championships will create a team. This means that if the Club has more than three qualifying individuals in a class, the team members may change from the Qualifying competition. A Club may have more than one team in a class. Schools wishing athletes to represent them at this competition should ensure that the School is registered as an affiliated club. The Club membership form can be downloaded from https://www.pentathlongb.org/pentathlongb/resources.php. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If I regsitered online last season, will I have to register again? | No. You can login using the username and password you created when you first registered. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How do I check if my entry has been received? | Go to the website www.pentathlongb.org and click on the 'Schools' Tab at the top right. Look for the 'Competition Entries' tab where you will be able to see the entries recieved. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How do I find out my registration time? Will you email me these details? | No. The timetable will be posted on the schools page of the website approximately two weeks before the competition. We will not email you at all, other than to confirm your entry. All other notifications will be posted online, and you are therefore advised to check the websiter regularly. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If there are any changes to the competition or timetable which may affect my athletes, will you notify me of these changes by email? | No. All notifications will be posted on the website so you are advised to check this regularly. The definitive timetable will be found in your competition programme issued at registration. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If an athlete is entered by the school/club and they qualify for the championships, does the school/club have to continue with the entry process or can a parent take over if necessary? | The person who initially registered online and submitted the times will have to continue the process as only they would know their login details and password. If they choose to disclose these to another person, please be advised that in cases where more than one athlete has been entered, all of these entries will be the responsibility of the person logging in as they will not be transferrable once in the system. This may also pose a security risk as their personal details, and those of the all the athletes entered from that school/club, would then be visable to this person. For more information please call head office on 01225 386808. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My teacher entered me online but has now left the school. What do I do? | Call head office on 01225 386808 and we will be able to help you. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I want to enter but have missed the closing date… | We're very sorry, but we cannot take late entries under any circumstances and for any reason. This is not negotiable. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Once times have been submitted, can I update them if a faster time was achieved before the closing date? | If an athlete has competed in more than one competition (Regional Biathlon Qualifying competition, Pentathlon GB approved competition or time trial, British Modern Biathlon Championships), the best combined score will be included on the rankings list. If an athlete scores the same points over two or more competitions, the score with the best swim time will be used. Improved times from any other source will not be accepted. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Does the school need to send a teacher? | No, a parent can attend instead. Only one representative from each school should report to registration to collect all of the information for that school. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Where do I get my run numbers and programmes? | They are all in the Registration Pack when you arrive at the venue. Registration is alphabetically by School, and we ask that one designated person collects the pack. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Is there a café at the venue? | This depends on the venue. It is advisable to check with the establishment before the competition. As the venue café tends to get very busy at peak periods, most competitors bring their own refreshments. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If I am not travelling to the competition with my school group, once at the venue can I register without my teacher? | You can, but at the British Championships (because of the huge numbers of athletes attending) we ask that ONE representative from your school collects the run numbers for all of the athletes, and this is usually the first person to arrive. It does not have to be a teacher, it can be a parent if they are happy to take responsibility. This person must sign to acknowledge that they have taken the registration pack, and leave a mobile number so that other athletes arriving can contact this person to collect their run number. Please note that we DO NOT split the regsitration packs, they go out as one pack, with one person. It is therefore a good idea to organise with your teacher who will pick up the pack before you get to the venue. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I've got my registration time but I might be late. Does it matter if I'm not there exactly on time? | The registration times are when the registration for your class opens. However we strongly recommend you are there as close to time as possible as you will need around 30 - 40 minutes before your first event starts to get parked, registered, sort out where you are going, get changed and report for your first discipline. We will not delay the competition if you are late. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How are the final placings decided? | Points are awarded for each discipline and final positions are decided by the total number of points achieved after both disciplines. There is also a team element to the competition as the three top scoring individuals from a School in a class will count as a team. Schools may have more than one team in a class. Please refer to the Rules for the procedure in deciding placings should there be a tie in points. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will you email me if the competition has been cancelled? | No. All notifications will be posted on the website so you are advised to check this regularly. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will I get a refund if the competition is cancelled? | If a competition organised by the Pentathlon GB regions or by Pentathlon GB is cancelled for reasons within our control, each athlete entered into that competition will be offered an alternative competition (where possible) and in default a full refund. If the decision to cancel is made because of circumstances beyond the control of Pentathlon GB, e.g. adverse weather conditions or the strong possibility of adverse weather conditions, there will be no refund. If schools are concerned about this, we suggest that they consider insuring themselves against loss in the event of cancellation. Please contact the organiser of Pentathlon GB approved competitions or time trials for information about their cancellation policy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If the British Modern Biathlon Championships or British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships are cancelled, will there be a replacement competition? | No. Rearranging competitions in such circumstances is impossible as venues and officials are simply not available at such short notice. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| My school requires an invoice / receipt… | Please contact the office as soon as you can and we will arrange this for you. Our number is 01225 386808 and the email is admin@pentathlongb.org |
