British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships 2010-11
Pentathlon GB, the governing body for the sport of Modern Pentathlon, has pleasure to invite the pupils of your school to compete in one of the Schools’ Biathlon Qualifying Competitions which culminate in the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships to be held at Crystal Palace on 20th March 2011.
Pentathlon GB values the Schools’ Biathlon series of competitions and firmly believes they offer young people the opportunity to participate in multi-sport in an enjoyable, safe and competitive environment. This is an open invitation and all schools are eligible to compete.
A list of dates and venues for the 2010/2011 competitions can be downloaded here.
Personalised letters of invitation and entry forms will be sent out to schools whose details we have on file in late August ready for the beginning of the Autumn Term.
For other schools, and for those wishing to get a head start, you may download the letter of invitation, entry form, school approval form for 2010/2011 together with a poster which can be used to promote the competition from this site shortly.
Competitors in England and Wales may only compete in the designated qualifying competition which is determined by the County in which the School is located.
This year, the top 6 individual athletes and the top team and members thereof in each class from the 12 qualifying competitions will be invited to compete in one of three semi-finals to be held in Macclesfield, Bath and Crystal Palace. The top 6 individual athletes and the top team and members thereof in each class from the 3 semi-finals will qualify by right to the British Championships. A number of other athletes will be invited from the rankings list.
Details of qualifying competitions to be held in Scotland can be found from www.pentathlon-scotland.org.
You are strongly recommended to download and read a copy of the revised Rules for 2010 which will be available on 1st September from this section of the website.
All registration instructions, directions to venues etc will also be posted on the schools page of the website in due course.
With the ever-increasing popularity of this competition, there is a maximum number of athletes that can safely and comfortably be accommodated at each venue so please send your entries in early to avoid disappointment. Please note that the closing dates will be strictly enforced!
We look forward to seeing your school’s athletes at one of the Qualifying Competitions, but in the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our headquarters in Bath on 01225 386808.
Guildford High School Biathlon
Guildford High School Biathlon held on 8th May was a great success with over 160 entries from local schools. The weather was not as kind as in previous years, with the run in Stoke Park being held in the rain but this did not hamper runners, with some good times being posted. Tara Oxley, just back from maternity leave, again ran a smooth event, finishing in good time.
Numbers for this popular competition have risen each year, which is now to become a biannual event. The next date for this competition is to be 16th October, and if you would like your school to receive an invitation, please contact Gill Measures at gillmeasures@googlemail.com
