Celebrating 20 years of the School Games, young athletes showcase determination, teamwork and personal achievement at Loughborough University.
The 2026 School Games National Finals brought together talented young athletes from across the UK at Loughborough University from 3–6 September, marking the 20th anniversary of the event. With a renewed focus on celebrating personal progress alongside competitive achievement, the event provided an exciting opportunity for the next generation of modern pentathlon athletes to compete, develop and gain valuable experience.
Modern pentathlon featured across the weekend, with athletes taking part in individual and team competitions. Throughout the event, competitors demonstrated determination, resilience and sportsmanship, with numerous personal bests and impressive performances highlighting the hard work and dedication of those involved.
The team competition brought an added sense of camaraderie, giving athletes the opportunity to compete alongside one another and support their teammates. The positive atmosphere throughout the weekend reflected the strong sense of community within the sport, with athletes embracing both the competitive and social aspects of the event.
This year’s School Games National Finals placed particular emphasis on recognising success beyond podium finishes, encouraging athletes to celebrate their individual progress, personal goals and experiences. For those competing in modern pentathlon, the event offered an opportunity to develop confidence, build friendships and experience the atmosphere of a major multi-sport competition.
Celebrating two decades since the first School Games National Finals in 2006, the event continues to play an important role in supporting young sporting talent and providing valuable competition experience as athletes progress through their sporting journeys.
Pentathlon GB is incredibly proud of all the athletes who took part and would like to extend a huge thank you to the coaches, officials, volunteers, organisers and supporters who helped make the event such a success.
